A bar owner has been fined after serving a customer a glass of caustic soda (beer line cleaner) instead of beer.

A bar owner has been fined after serving a customer a glass of caustic soda (beer line cleaner) instead of beer.

The customer was rushed to hospital where he was placed in an induced coma and eventually had to have

surgery to remove is oesophagus. The bartender who served the drink did not know the line was being cleaned

at the time as the liquid that came out of the pump was a similar colour to the beer. The owner was fined

£20,000 as an individual and the company was fined £5,000. The company was also fined £17,859 in costs.

Total costs = £20,000 + £5,000 + £17,859 = £42,859
